Poway hosts two tournaments per year.
The Poway Country Shoot-Out is held Memorial Day weekend each year, is a competitive tournament played on Poway Fields which include: Arbolitos Sports Park, Meadowbrook Middle School, Hillary Park, and Valley Elementary School. In addition to our home fields we often have games at Poway High as well as the 4S Community Park. This tournament is held annually with the proceeds going to benefit our filed improvement fund as well as funding for our Vaqueros players that may be in need of financial assistance.
In June Poway Vaqueros is host to the Kickin’ It Challenge which is a tournament where 100% of the proceeds are donated to the San Diego Affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Foundation for the cure. The Kickin’ It Challenge is the tournament that “unites” all Southern California soccer clubs in the fight against breast cancer.
This tournament was the idea of members of the Poway Vaqueros Board of Directors and was in response to the number of Poway moms fighting the fight of their lives. “Everyone knows someone who has been touched by breast cancer” said Poway Vaqueros President, Pam Bickel. This tournament gives us the opportunity to do something for a greater cause and still do what we love “play soccer”.
Quote from 2012 Kickin’ It Challenge.
“Oceanside Breakers GU-9 were fortunate enough to win the Championship,” Ackles explained, “but even more fortunate to play in a tournament that goes much further than medals, wins, trophies and goals. These eight-year-olds experienced something that goes well beyond the soccer field. Coach CarrieAnn Fawcett and myself, as well as each parent, could not be prouder of them!”
